Voter Participation
Georgia has one of the lowest voter participation rates in the nation.
In 31 presidential elections, spanning 124 years, a majority of the eligible voters in Georgia have not cast their vote at the poles.
In the last gubernatorial election (2006), only 48.1 percent of registered voters cast a vote. Oconee County (with 59.7 percent) had the highest percentage of residents voting in the general election; and Clinch County (32.5 percent) had the lowest percentage. In the 2004 presidential election, 56.8 percent of the voting-age population cast a vote for president; and Georgia ranked 48th among all 50 states (US Census Bureau).
