Georgia Center to provide sign language course to Atlanta schools

From August through October, the Georgia Center for Continuing Education is conducting a 20-hour basic American Sign Language course for 14 teachers and staff members in Atlanta Public Schools. Ten training sessions are taught by Ashia James, lead ASL instructor for the Georgia Center. Most of the teachers and staff are with E. Rivers Elementary School where the ASL training classes are being held and include staff who have contact with deaf or hearing-impaired students. Their positions range from general and special education teachers to French, art, music and PE, the media specialist, counselor, speech-language pathologist, and writing coach.
