  • UGA named to 2012 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

    For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Georgia has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This honor is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

  • UGA’s Young Dawgs Program nominated for regional Kellogg Foundation Award

    The University of Georgia Young Dawgs program has been selected as the 2012 UGA nominee for the regional Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg Foundation Engagement Award for the Southeast.  The UGA Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach made the selection from among five entries submitted by other colleges, schools and departments throughout the university campus.

  • State Botanical Garden to host world-renowned violinist and Mercer’s string orchestra

    Students and faculty from the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University in Macon will perform Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in the State Botanical Garden of Georgia’s Visitor Center and Conservatory at the University of Georgia April 25.

  • UGA’s Vinson Institute releases unique assessment tool for government managers

    The University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government launched a new tool in March to help government leaders identify their professional strengths and areas for growth, while setting professional development goals. GOV360™ is a 360-degree assessment tool developed by the Vinson Institute in collaboration with faculty from the UGA department of psychology that specifically addresses the needs and demands of public sector leadership.

    The University of Georgia Marine Extension Service is hosting a Chatham County freshwater public program series at the Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidaway Island near Savannah.

  • Two UGA graduate students receive Louise McBee Scholarship

    Two University of Georgia graduate students have received a $1000 Louise McBee Scholarship from the Georgia Association of Women in Higher Education for their academic achievements and support of women’s leadership in higher education.

  • 2012-13 SERVICE-LEARNING FELLOWS APPLICATIONS DUE MARCH 19

    The Office of Service-Learning is accepting applications for the 2012-13 Service-Learning Fellows (SLF) program. Fellowship applications are due Monday, March 19, 2012. The SLF Program is a year-long faculty development program that provides an opportunity for selected faculty members to integrate service-learning into their teaching, research, and public service work while becoming recognized campus leaders in service-learning pedagogy and community engagement.

  • Study shows economic impact of UGA public service exceeds $330 million

    Athens, Ga. – Higher education is often seen as yielding only long-term benefits. However, a recent study estimating the economic impact of the University of Georgia’s Public Service and Outreach programs at $333 million annually confirms that in public service areas, investments in higher education multiply quickly throughout Georgia.

  • Frum named vice president for public service and outreach at the University of Georgia

    Jennifer Frum, who has served as interim vice president for public service and outreach at the University of Georgia since July 2011, has been named to fill the position on a permanent basis, effective Feb. 1. 

  • State Botanical Garden announces certificate program scholarship

    The State Botanical Garden of Georgia announced on January 25, 2012, the creation of a scholarship program for Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) members or individuals working for a GGIA affiliate.

    The University of Georgia Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach has announced the names of nine faculty and staff members who will receive awards for outstanding service.

  • Back to nature: Sea turtle ‘Eddie’ released from Marine Education Center and Aquarium

    A 3-year-old loggerhead sea turtle nicknamed Eddie was released into the ocean Sept. 2 after living at UGA’s Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidaway Island since he was a hatchling.
