The exhibit, “My Place at the Boys & Girls Club,” is located in Hill Atrium on the main floor of the Georgia Center and runs through August 10.The exhibit is the result of an after-school program created through a grant awarded by the University of Georgia’s 2006-2007 Scholarship of Engagement Grants program, administered by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. The grant was awarded to the Georgia Center’s Denise Logan and Kathleen McDermott for their proposal, “Engaging At-Risk Youth: Academic Development through the Arts.”

Logan and McDermott’s program, which included mentoring by students from UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and Lamar Dodd School of Art, focused on implementing 18 hours of structured photography and creative writing for students enrolled in the after-school program at the Boys & Girls Club of Athens.

The Georgia Center, celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2007, is a unit of the University of Georgia’s Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. The Center provides innovative lifelong learning opportunities through its continuing education programs. On UGA’s campus, the Georgia Center includes a full-service hotel with 200 rooms and suites, restaurants, banquet areas, conference rooms, auditoriums, a fitness center, and a computer lab — all under one roof.
