Building a Competitive Workforce
Athens, GA (July 16, 2007) – In early 2007, regional discussion forums facilitated by staff from Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, Georgia State University and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs were conducted to gather input on the Southern Growth Policy Board’s question: “What can we do to build a competitive workforce for the future?”
Mac Brown, a co-principal facilitator from UGA’s Fanning Institute, was assisted by other Fanning faculty and staff in organizing and facilitating the forums and producing a report titled “Building the Next Workforce: Georgia Discussion Forums: Consolidated Results.” Initiated through a partnership of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, State Workforce Investment Board and the Georgia Department of Labor, the forums were also sponsored by the U.S. Economic Development Administration, hosted by Workforce Investment Boards across Georgia, and supported by a team of faculty from Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia.
