2008 Graduate Student Diversity Engagement Award

The Graduate School is seeking nominations for the first annual “Graduate Student Diversity Engagement Award.” This is a new award that will be given by the Graduate School and the UGA Alumni Association to:

  • recognize the outstanding efforts of graduate students to achieve and sustain diversity and inclusion on the University of Georgia’s campus and/or within the larger community.
  • acknowledge the outreach accomplishments related to diversity achieved through conducting research, engaging in scholarship, or service to the community.

This award addresses work with underrepresented populations within the university and/or the local community. The recipient will be selected by a faculty committee appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School. One award of $1,000 will be given.
Students nominated for the award must be in good academic standing at the time of application and must be making satisfactory academic progress in a degree-seeking program. Students nominated for the 2008 “Graduate Student Diversity Engagement Award” are not eligible to be nominated for the 2008 “Diversity Research Scholarship” for graduate students.
Nominations may be made by faculty members, staff, and students. Nomination materials should include:

  1. A 1-2 page statement that describes the student’s efforts to achieve and sustain diversity and inclusion on the campus and/or the community and how diversity outreach efforts have been accomplished by conducting research, engaging in scholarship, as well as through service to the community.
  2. Letter of support from faculty member describing the quality, importance, and impact of the student’s engagement.
  3. Documentation from the graduate coordinator that the student is making satisfactory academic progress in a degree-seeking program.

Material must be submitted in a manila folder with the following on the tab:

  • Name of the student (Last name, First name)
  • Department Name

DEADLINE for nominations: Friday, January 18, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
