Call for faculty participation in Service-Learning benchmark study

Athens, Ga. (February 18, 2008) — The Office of Service-Learning (OSL) is seeking faculty participation in a “Service-Learning Benchmark Study” in order to gain a better understanding of current service-learning practice among UGA faculty, identify perceived challenges, barriers, and benefits, and provide information for future faculty development and support programs.

A selected group of faculty members will soon receive an email with a link to the online faculty service-learning survey. Please encourage faculty in your departments, colleges, and units to participate in this study regardless of their previous experience or interest in service-learning. The OSL is seeking the input of faculty from all career tracks in order to better understand faculty development needs and to benchmark institution-wide understanding and adoption of service-learning.

The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. As a thank you to selected participants, faculty will be given the option of providing their name and contact information at the conclusion of the
survey to enter a drawing for service-learning publications and teaching resources. In order to ensure confidentiality, please note this identifiable information will be sent to a separate database so the
researchers will be unable to link personal information to survey responses.

Participation is greatly appreciated. If you have further questions about this research, contact Dr. Su-I Hou, Associate Professor of Health Promotion and Behavior & Service-Learning Senior Scholar for Curricular Initiatives at or (706) 542-8206, or Dr. Shannon O. Wilder, Director, Office of Service-Learning at or (706) 542-8924.
