The Fanning Institute builds local capacity and resources to ensure that knowledgeable, skilled, and committed leadership is in place to enhance community and economic development opportunities for Georgia communities, the nation, and the world. This interdisciplinary organization provides programs related to community, economic, and leadership development and achieves its mission through quality educational programs, curriculum development, technical assistance, applied research, data collection and evaluation.

The Georgia Center for Continuing Education is a 300,000 square-foot, comprehensive residential public service educational unit that annually enrolls over 100,000 adults in its various credit, non-credit, and distance learning programs. Other activities for the campus, community, and state serve an additional 100,000 people each year.
Marine Extension Service

The Marine Extension Service works to increase the efficiency of existing marine industries, to identify new industries that do not harm the environment, and to increase public awareness and understanding of coastal ecosystems. The coordinated programs of research, advisory services and education carried out from offices in Athens and Atlanta and from facilities on Skidaway Island and in Brunswick extend economic and cultural benefits throughout the state and region.

The Office of Academic Special Programs offers a variety of academically-based, pre-collegiate programs for middle- and high school students in Georgia. The Office also conducts an Academic Placement (AP) Summer Institute for high school teachers seeking certification to teach AP courses at their schools.

The Office of Service-Learning supports UGA faculty members in creating and expanding service-learning opportunities for students in campus-based and study abroad courses. The Office also cultivates community-based partner-ships that respond to expressed community needs. The Office of Service-Learning is jointly supported by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and the Office of the Vice President for Instruction.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is a public service unit of The University of Georgia and a business assistance provider for the U.S. Small Business Administration. The unit seeks to enhance the economic well-being of Georgians by utilizing the knowledge base of colleges and universities in our state. BOS/SBDC provides a wide range of educational opportunities to small business owners, potential entrepreneurs, and community leadership organizations which support efforts to create, sustain and/or expand business ventures. These educational opportunities are delivered through direct business consulting, business training classes, and applied research studies.
