UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant are sponsoring a day of activities, including a dedication ceremony for the new outdoor pavilion on June 8.
Events will take place all day with ocean education activities and a reptile talk in the auditorium at 2 p.m.
At 2:30 p.m., Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant staff, as well as representatives from UGA Public Service and Outreach will hold a short dedication ceremony for the pavilion, which was completed this spring on the lawn between the aquarium and the Skidaway River to provide outdoor education space for visiting groups. Watermelon will be served at the pavilion following its dedication.
The materials for the pavilion were funded by generous gifts from Gus Arrendale III and Springer Mountain Farms, as well as a number of individual donors. Volunteers from The Landings residential community on Skidaway Island, who call themselves the Barn Builders, constructed the facility.
Throughout the day, Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant staff will guide behind the scenes tours of the aquarium. The aquarium closes at 4 p.m.
June 8 is designated by the United Nations as World Oceans Day to celebrate conservation of this important resource around the world.
