The first 11 finance officers to successfully complete the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s new Charter Schools Financial Management Certification Program were recognized in December at the Georgia Board of Education’s District Flexibility and Charter Schools Committee meeting. The institute partnered with the Georgia Department of Education, the State Charter Schools Commission and the Georgia Charter Schools Association to develop a curriculum, designed to help charter schools operating more effectively. The 48-hour certification program consists of six courses on topics such as school budgets, accounting, payroll processing, purchasing and financial policies. Faculty member Dave Lakly and Georgia Department of Education Board Member Brian Burdette presented certificates to the graduates during the recognition ceremony.
