State Botanical Garden hosts Cultures and Cuisines fundraiser

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia will feature six local restaurants at the Around the World Cultures and Cuisines fundraiser Aug. 23 from 7-9 p.m. The event is being held to celebrate the Spanish-American, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean sections of the International Garden. Full story

State Botanical Garden accepting donations for Friends of the Garden Flea Market

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia is accepting donations from the public for its annual Friends of the Garden Flea Market. Acceptable items, including furniture, books, toys, garden supplies, linens, jewelry, can be dropped off Aug. 13-17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily at the botanical garden, which is located at 2450 South Milledge Avenue. Pickup is available for large items. Clothing items will not be accepted.

State Botanical Garden of Georgia exhibiting work by Madison Artists Guild

Works by members of the Madison Artists Guild of Morgan County will be
on display through July 29 in the Visitor Center Gallery of the State
Botanical Garden at the University of Georgia. A reception to meet the
artists will be held July 15 from 2-4 p.m. The free event is open to the

Georgia shrimper’s turtle excluder device receives national certification

Collaboration between a Georgia shrimper, the University of Georgia
Marine Extension Service and Georgia Sea Grant led to federal
certification of a new turtle excluder device designed to allow sea
turtles to escape more quickly and reduce the unwanted bycatch of
finfish, sharks, rays and ecologically important invertebrates like

to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the

UGA’s Young Dawgs Program nominated for regional Kellogg Foundation Award

The University of Georgia Young Dawgs program has been selected as the
2012 UGA nominee for the regional Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg
Foundation Engagement Award for the Southeast.  The UGA Office of the
Vice President for Public Service and Outreach made the selection from
among five entries submitted by other colleges, schools and departments

UGA’s Vinson Institute releases unique assessment tool for government managers

The University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government launched a
new tool in March to help government leaders identify their
professional strengths and areas for growth, while setting professional
development goals. GOV360™ is a 360-degree assessment tool developed by
the Vinson Institute in collaboration with faculty from the UGA
department of psychology that specifically addresses the needs and
