ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — A University of Georgia water resources professor has been named interim director of the school’s Marine Extension Service.
UGA administrators have named Mark Risse (REE-see) to fill the position on an interim basis after current Marine Extension director Randy Walker retires Dec. 1. Walker has been with the university for more than 32 years.
The Marine Extension Service has facilities and staff in Athens, Atlanta, Savannah and Brunswick and works to raise awareness of coastal ecosystems and to promote marine-based industries that are efficient and environmentally friendly.
UGA calls Risse an expert in non-point source pollution management, water conservation and stormwater management. At UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, he was worked with local and state governments to assist them with water resource issues.
