Service-learning course meeting at Center for Native Plant Studies

Every spring semester, Jim Affolter, director of research at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, teaches a three-credit, service-learning undergraduate course, “Conserving Native Plants” (HORT 3333S). Students now are able to meet in the classroom at the Mimsie Lanier Center for Native Plant Studies, the perfect venue for studying the Botanical Garden’s plant conservation and habitat restoration activities. Many additional garden staff participate in the class as presenters, or by leading work-groups in their areas or gardens of specialty. The 12 students enrolled in the class this semester clearly enjoy the opportunity to experience this behind-the-scenes look at our science and conservation program, including native plant projects.
