UGA offers symposium on school board governance

The University of Georgia Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach is offering school board members, superintendents, community leaders and educators across Georgia the opportunity to participate in a one-day symposium titled “Improving Schools through Board Governance.” The symposium will be held on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the UGA Center for Continuing Education.

“Improving Schools through Board Governance” will feature experts who will address school board governance issues including best practices, challenges, lessons learned and the intersecting responsibilities of the superintendent and the school board.

“Our goal with the symposium is to help school boards and those involved understand the critical ways in which they can make a difference and focus their energy on improving education in the community,” said David Tanner, conference coordinator and associate director of governmental services and research at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, a UGA public service and outreach unit.

Registration for the symposium is required, but there is no cost to attend. To register, or for more information on speakers and the full schedule, see
