As part of UGA’s commitment to ensuring the economic health and well-being of Georgia’s communities, the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach launched a new economic development training program in 2013. The first course, developed by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, delved into financing and deal structuring. The newest course, Business Retention and Expansion, is being offered in Athens on Dec. 11, 2014, and in Tifton on Feb. 5, 2015.
Instructors from the Institute of Government, along with leading industry experts, will provide economic development professionals with best practices for collecting key information regarding the challenges and opportunities for growth in employment or taxable investment. The course will also cover tools for leveraging both retention and expansion scenarios as well as metrics for evaluating success and communicating results with key stakeholders. In addition, course instructors will present data on the significance of business retention and expansion programs and will offer case study analysis relevant to the Georgia practitioner.
