Institute faculty member Langford Holbrook began interviewing Cordele municipal leaders in March for the initial phase of a strategic plan that will inform local efforts to prepare the city’s inland port for expected growth resulting from expansion of the Savannah harbor. The 1,200-acre site has a direct rail connection to Savannah. The institute received a $5,000 contract in late February to work with local leaders on a marketing plan that will encourage shippers to exploit that rail connection to ease truck traffic near the coast while enhancing economic growth in Cordele.
