Hart County Youth Leadership visits UGA campus

The Hart County Youth Leadership Program kicked off its 2015 class with a half-day opening retreat on January 27 at UGA’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. Sixteen 10th and 11th graders participated in experiential activities including teambuilding at Fanning’s outdoor leadership lab.

The retreat — led by Fanning faculty members Carolina Darbisi, Emily Boness, Lauren Healey and Brendan Leahy — focused on what makes a good leader, individual and group leadership styles and effective communication.

In addition to the high school students, several adults who previously completed a train-the-trainer session to learn how to facilitate Fanning’s new Youth Leadership in Action curriculum joined the students to become more familiar with the curriculum, ask questions and get to know the students.
