State Botanical Garden of Georgia named a winner in the AAS Landscape Design Contest

The display garden at the State Botanical garden of Georgia took third place among gardens with more than 100,000 visitors a year in the annual All-America Selections (AAS) design contest.

The display garden, located in the Flower garden and designed by curator Shelly Prescott, was lauded by judges for its “flowing lines and the visual impact it makes when standing on a nearby overlook.”

The contest, for almost 200 display gardens across the country, is intended to inspire creative landscaping designs. Gardens are judged on their garden as well the publicity and events that surround it. Entries were submitted to three categories of gardens, those with: fewer than 10,000 visitors a year; 10,001-100,000 visitors a year; and more than 100,000 visitors a year.

The AAS was founded in 1932 as a way to monitor new garden varieties and provide an assessment for flower and vegetable gardens in North American climates. The first AAS awards were announced in 1933.

All of the 2014 contest winners are profiled on the AA website at all-americaselections.org.
