Campus Kitchen at UGA hosts Food Waste Fiasco

On August 8, the Campus Kitchen at UGA kicked off the school year with the “Food Waste Fiasco” event in the Memorial Hall Ballroom. Over 120 attendees experienced food recovery first-hand by enjoying a fresh meal prepared by Campus Kitchen at UGA from donated grocery store and farmer’s market surplus.

The event provided participants the opportunity to hear how Athens addresses food waste and food insecurity through food donations to nonprofits, composting, and recycling. Featured speakers included Campus Kitchen at UGA, Athens Community Council on Aging, Action INC., UGA Food Services, Let Us Compost, UGArden, and ACC Solid Waste Dept. This is event was sponsored in part by the David and Evelyn Knauft Endowment for Service-Learning.
