ALBANY, GA (WALB) –
More than 100 educators and community leaders are collaborating on ways to improve student achievement.
They attended the first Albany-Dougherty Education Summit at Monroe High School. Educators, the school superintendent, and Presidents from ASU, Darton, and Albany Tech worked in small groups facilitated by UGA officials. They discussed challenges such as transitioning from high school to college and preparing students for the work force.
“Part of the reason behind the listening sessions and the summit tonight is to hear from the broader community about what the issues and challenges are,” said Matt Bishop, Director or J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at UGA. “So, once you understand what the issues and challenges are you can then create some strategies and solutions for addressing them.”
Facilitators plan to bring in experts to address the challenges that are brought up and hope to hold another summit by the end of the summer.
