UGA students produced a design concept for the streetscape project that the City of Tennille will use to revitalize its downtown. Students from the College of Environment and Design (CED) have been working on the project since June, beginning with a walking tour of the city and a visit with some of its residents. They submitted preliminary design concepts this fall, with one selected as a final plan by the Tennille Downtown Development Authority. Kiley Aguar, a CED master’s student and Archway Partnership graduate assistant, presented the concept to the Tennille City Council in late November. The streetscape project is part of the Washington County Archway Partnership’s ongoing efforts to address issues of economic and community development. Tennille was established in 1875 as primarily a railroad town. It has a population of about 2,000 people and the community features several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Recently, Tennille has seen renewed interest in its downtown, with the opening of several new businesses.
